Read the Future at CasparFest An exhibit of stories about the future of Mendocino coastal communities, collected by the Coast 20/20 project, will be a featured exhibit at the upcoming Caspar Fest celebration on the weekend of September 27/28. The popular Caspar Fest event celebrates local and sustainable community by hosting two days of music, exhibits, vendors, kids programs, educational presentations, tasty food, and a chance to visit with friends and neighbors. Coast residents are invited to gather at the Caspar Community Center both days for what has become our own traditional local Fall harvest gathering. During the past six months the Mendocino Coast 20/20 project has collected stories and dreams about the future of our coastal communities at a series of open public meetings attended by several hundred local residents. All of this information will be on display at Caspar Fest. Charles Bush, who has served as a facilitator at several of the meetings, describes the collection of futuristic stories as "a wonderful vision of possible abundance and sustainability, that reflects a converging wisdom, inspiring values, and high level of technical expertise among the community residents of the coast." At the Coast 20/20 Exhibit in the South Room of the Caspar Community Center, festival participants will be able to review summaries of the eight story themes, explore a variety of resources for future planning, and see a preview of the Coast 20/20 web site. Most importantly everyone is invited to take a few minutes to write their own contribution to our unfolding dream of the best coast future we can imagine, or to add new information to the Coast 20/20 data bank. Summaries of these eight stories can be found in this library (see the list at right) or can be requested by emailing charles @ coast2020.org
